Lisa Williams Buhler

Founder at Lisa Says Gah, San Francisco

Veteran to the fashion scene, former Nasty Gal buyer Lisa Williams brought her experience from Los Angeles to San Francisco where she launched her own shopping site, Lisa Says Gah. The e-commerce venture hones in on the idea of creativity, community, ethical fashion and high-quality products, all of which are exuded in her coveted offerings. Keen to emerging designers and timeless pieces, Lisa’s approach is well-edited, minimalistic and reflective of her own indie-inspired style. We spoke to Lisa and got to know the romantically classic, yet casually laid-back Lisa Says Gah girl.

Your idea of happiness?

Waking up excited for the day ahead.

Your idea of misery?

Nausea or waiting in line come to mind.

If not yourself, who would you be?

Can I be Adele?

Your heroes?

My Grandmother and mother, who persistently give me little to no life advice when asked, but rather encourage me to "figure it out". It drives me mad at times, but I now realize that they lead by example, and I've been observing that advice all along. I'm a more decisive thinker for it.

What is your present state of mind?

Caffeinated and eager.

Bedside table books?

Usually non-fiction. Currently, "The Power Of Habit" and Zadie Smith's, "Changing My Mind".

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night?

Toss and turn. Thankfully a rarity.

Do you collect?

Not since my nail polish collection in the 5th grade. I do hold on to special things, like family heirlooms of furniture and jewelry, or items of clothing handed down.

Tea or coffee?

Morning coffee, afternoon tea.

What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

That coffee and orange juice, if mixed, would cause an explosion. Thanks, Dad!

A color?

Rose quartz.

A city?

Rome for all the visual and edible indulgences that it has to offer.

What are your plans for this weekend?

My fiance and I are attending a family wedding in San Diego. The first wedding of the year! And our first same-sex wedding!

A song?

Whatever Olivia (our editor) is playing in the office. Currently, a disco tune - Al Hudson "You Can Do It"!

Right or left handed?

What is the best dish you can cook?

I asked my fiance. Confidently says scrambled eggs. He's the better cook.

What is your middle name?

What do you do in your free time?

When I find free time I make sure to use that time for myself, with my partner and our friends. I enjoy hosting and having friends over or getting out of town with my fiance, Louis. Moments alone are typically spent reading, yoga in the morning, "Kondo-ing" the house, or sitting on the sofa with a big ol' glass of wine skimming through Netflix.

What inspires you?

I get amped after listening to an insightful podcast, watching a documentary, reading a new subject and travelling, of course! These activities all inspire new concepts and ideas for LSG and my personal life.

What do you do for money?

Run LSG, which mostly entails maintaining relentless attention to detail and an unwavering focus on the goal, investing in beautiful merchandise and working with wickedly smart and talented individuals.

What do you do for pleasure?

Work for LSG, travel, reading and spending time with friends and family. Every day is filled with pleasure if I can recognize and appreciate it.

Pants or skirt?

I don't own a skirt at the moment, so I'll go with pants! (:
