Jacob Romero

Photographer, Touring with Toro y Moi

Jacob Romero is a photographer based in San Francisco, originally from Orange County. He is a house photographer for Another Planet Entertainment where he documents the bands and their acts at venues for press. Recently, he toured with Toro Y Moi in his first time outside of California. When he isn’t shooting, he finds time to thrift or skate.

Who are you and where are you from?

Hey! I’m Jacob, and I’m a photographer based in SF. Originally from Orange County.

So how was the tour live with Toro Y Moi?

Consistently exciting, this was my first time outside of California!

What were you doing exactly on the tour team?

Content Creator/Driver

When you’re not traveling with musician, what do you do?

I’m one of the House Photographers for Another Planet Entertainment covering bands at all their venues for press.

What do you dream for the future?

I’d love to continue working with artists I admire. Getting this far has been a dream in itself.

Your idea of happiness?

Being able to support yourself doing what you love.

Your idea of misery?

If not yourself, who would you be?

Sampha! I’d love to articulate my deepest feelings through the keys of a piano.

Your heroes?

There’s a lot of people I admire, but the first to come to mind is MLK Jr. The foundation of his life’s work created a platform for all POC to succeed.

What is your present state of mind?

Thankful beyond words.

A song?

Drugs With You by Black Party

Right or left handed?

What is the best dish you can cook?

Vegan Ginger Sesame Noodles

What is your middle name?

What do you do in your free time?

Usually I’m skating, thinking of clothing ideas, or watching pug videos haha.

What inspires you?

How lucky I’ve been the past few years. I grew up in a blue collar family, and I never thought I’d escape that cycle of living paycheck to paycheck. I’m inspired every time I think of the humble beginnings.

What do you do for money?

Work part time jobs that bore me.

What do you do for pleasure?

Skateboarding! It’s hard to describe to people who don’t understand, but there’s nothing more special than pushing around the city with your best friends and forgetting about the real world for a few hours.

Bedside table books?

Lies My Teacher Told Me by James Loewen, and Who We Be by Jeff Chang.

What do you do if you can’t sleep at night?

Podcasts! Some of my favorites are Criminal, Last Seen, and Code Switch.

Do you collect?

Yes! Vintage clothing. Throughout the whole tour I stopped at every vintage store I could. Why support fast fashion when you can wear something unique?

Tea or coffee?

Neither. Water only!

What is the strangest thing you believed as a child?

Hmm maybe Santa?

A color?

A city?

Los Angeles

What are your plans for this weekend?

Design a pair of pants
